Our Team
Cara
Cara is one of our 3 founders and the director of the rescue. Cara enjoys doing some of our transports. She also enjoys riding a motorcycle with her husband and spending time in Florida with her aunt, but with a rescue/sanctuary based out of their home, time away is few and far between.
Kris
Kris is Cara’s husband and one of the 3 founders of the rescue. He is a key player in taking care of the dogs and cleaning kennels especially while Cara and Kay are gone on transports or out trapping dogs. Kris works a full time job outside of the rescue. He enjoys working on cars and riding his motorcycle when he isn’t helping with the dogs.
Kailey
Kay is the 3rd founder of the rescue. She does our training and behavioral assessments. She has 4 small dogs of her own and likes fostering the senior or special needs dogs. Kay also enjoys drawing and working with reptiles and recently got her degree. She is now a master herpetologist.
Sheryl
Sheryl is one of our assistants who does a little bit of everything. She has been Cara’s ride or die over the last 7 years. Even in the middle of the night to unknown destinations. Sheryl has been fostering for over 10 years and has had over 100 fosters in her home. She enjoys fostering the special needs and seniors.
Heather
Heather began rescue work with injured and orphaned wildlife in 1994 with guidance from her parents. She started working in the pet industry in 1999 and found her passion. She stayed working with all animals in need of assistance. That's also where she learned that education was our biggest weapon. With that mindset, she began working with schools, scout troops, and zoos to help teach the youth about current issues and how to make changes and educate others in regard to the care of animals. Heather and Cara formed a partnership when Chow Hounds Pet Supplies opened in Auburn. Their partnership turned into a friendship and before she knew it was part of Canine Haven as an event specialist.
Linda
Linda worked as a teacher and media specialist for 34 years. After retiring in 2007, she started as a volunteer and foster at ACSPCA and EB Feline Rehoming. She moved on to several other rescues and shelters before joining CHR as a foster and eventually as an Adoption Coordinator. Finding the best match for the dog and the family is her priority.
Susan
Susan joined our team about 6 years ago as a transport driver and then became a foster. Susan has accompanied Cara on several transports. She also started our small cat rescue. We do not do cats unless it is a emergency situation. Susan is currently the home to 4 of our 8 untouchable dogs as well as her own dogs, goats and chickens and ducks.
Tina
During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tina and her family decided to foster for CHR. Tina quickly became an active team member shortly after, using her creative background in photography and graphics to provide website design and photography. She also accompanied Cara on multiple transports and trips to rescue dogs from high-kill shelters. Tina and her husband, Dave, have 3 foster fails with CHR and 6 cats. Their shared dream is to own a large property where they can offer pet boarding services and create a beautiful sanctuary for senior dogs to enjoy their golden years.
