“Now I get to remember you for longer than I have known you.”
Bella Blu May 2020
Bella Blu was rushed to the vet for being lethargic and her belly was swelling. After extensive blood work and lots of tests, it was discovered that she had a rare blood clotting disorder called Von Willebrand's. She was bleeding internally. There was nothing we could do to save her. We tried everything we could and followed the advice of an internal medicine vet. 💔 Bella's wonderful foster family joined us to say goodbye and decided they would take Bella back home with them to bury her in a very special place so she will be home forever. ❤
Polo 9/16/2017-10/7/2017
Polo came to us after we were tagged in a post on Facebook that he needed a new home. He was 9 years old and spent his entire life outside on a chain. He came home and jumped on the couch and slept. We had his vetting completed and he went home with our director's friend to live. He was only there a few short days before they noticed something was wrong. They called their vet and rushed him in right away. Sadly Polo didn't make the trip. We found out later that night that he had prostate cancer with a tumor the size of a football. We only had him a short time but at least he didn't die at the end of that chain. He was loved deeply.
George June 8, 2021
George came to us a stray from a high-kill shelter. It was later found out that it was actually his owner that turned him in because he was old and needed medical care. When he arrived he could barely walk and was weak. We got him to vet care but he was only with us for 3 short weeks before he passed away.
Brewster aka Brew Brew May 3, 2022
Brewster came to us last month from Louisiana. He was picked up as a stray. He was in foster there and had what they thought were seizures. He was put on meds. We did this transport ourselves so it was less stressful for him. He stayed here at the director's home. He began having seizures more often. After many med changes and consults with our vet it is believed that he was actually having strokes. He always walked with a head tilt. This guy sure wormed his way into my and Kailey's heart. We figured he would be a sanctuary dog because of his medical issues. On May 2nd Brew had a bad stroke. He was awake and walking when we got home but had been pacing in circles for hours. We got him cleaned up and into a crate to help calm him down. We were up altering times checking on him. We knew this morning he still had not recovered. He wasn't alert. He seemed confused and was still wanting to pace in circles. We took him to see our vet. Together we made the heartbreaking decision that he wasn't going to recover. We couldn't let him suffer anymore. He took a huge part of our hearts. He was a pretty special guy. WE LOVE YOU BREW BREW. RUN FREE. 💔😭
Boone aka Ole Dad -06/7/19-10/14/21
Boone came to us from Arkansas where a shelter was closing and any remaining dogs were going to be euthanized. Boone was about 9 years old and was adopted by his foster mom. He lived his best life. Very spoiled very much loved. He passed away in his sleep on his mom's bed.
Tinkerbell March 11, 2020
15 year old Min Pin Tinkerbell. She came to us from a shelter in Louisiana with her 12 year old bonded blind friend. We were on transport home from Louisiana when Tinkerbell became very lethargic. She had very very bad teeth which caused a serve infection, it went to her bloodstream and her heart which caused congestive heart failure. We had to rush her to the closest vet. Her breathing was shallow and she wasn't responding to the treatment. Her body had given up. The infection had been unnoticed by shelter staff and was just too bad when we got her. We let her go peacefully there so she would not have to suffer any longer as we still had 5 hours of transport left and she wouldn't have made it that long. Her best friend was by her side and the staff at the vet office was great. Please Please take care of your dog's teeth.
Ivory July 2020
We pulled Ivory after she was taken in as a stray to a high-kill shelter in Louisiana. We saw her post and knew we had to help. Her stool was nothing but trash- she is so emaciated and she was covered in fleas. She was estimated to be about 2-3 years old. Ivory was rushed to the vet as her condition was getting worse. After x-rays were done it was determined that she had an intestinal blockage from some of the garbage she was eating while trying to stay alive on the streets. Her intestines had already begun dying off and she was septic. She was not strong enough to do surgery and she was suffering. After long talks with the vets, it was decided that it was best for Ivory to let her go peacefully. Her foster momma was by her side and today she sits on my desk as a reminder to keep going.
Benny October, 14 2021
Rest in Heaven sweet little Benny! You were at least 16 years old and had been abandoned in a hotel room a month ago. Today we found out you were in multi-system organ failure and had no quality of life. With your foster momma Linda by your side, you crossed the Rainbow Bridge. See you on the other side little man. Your life mattered and you were loved.
Kollins July 17, 2022
Well, maybe you remember Ivory we pulled from Caddo exactly 2 years ago?? Well sadly we didn't get to meet her as she was just too sick and we couldn't save her. Well, we saw this post from the same gals that helped with Ivory. Again we knew we had to help. Here is her story: We are in crisis mode with our new sweet baby girl! The shelter put out a mayday for her Wednesday that Thursday 3 pm she was going to be euthanized due to her health. Needless to say, we all felt like she deserved a chance at the good life. She is super, super emaciated with a body score of 1 out of 5. She has enough strength to stand but not walk. Her gums are white. She was a stray out in this Louisiana heat so she has to super dehydrated. Her little tongue sticks out so she most definitely has something going on in her mouth. She appears to be blind in her left eye as well. The sadness and defeat in her eyes literally will rip your heart out. She is also heartworm positive. She was making progress when she threw a blood clot from the heartworm and was gone in seconds. She was 4 years old.
Ben April 4, 2023
Ben was caught as a stray with his friend Regan. They were staying at someone’s home with several other dogs. We had taken puppies several days before. We later found out that they we actually their dogs. Ben is more gentle and loving than Regan. Ben recently had a stroke and is slowly recovering.
Puppers June 19, 2023
Sunshine May 28, 2021
She came to us with a litter of pups that were only a week old. She had been found as a stray when her owners moved and left her behind in Mississippi. She had a very swollen joint in her front leg and was heartworm positive. After the pups were weaned she went into a foster home that knew within 3 days they wanted to adopt. Sunny had x-rays on her front leg and we found out that there was a 22 bullet in her leg causing the swelling. She had surgery and underwent heartworm treatment. She recovered perfectly from both medical procedures. She was living her best life. When on May 28th she was rushed to the vet very lethargic. Many tests and scans later we found out that her liver was coming apart. There was some type of tumor on it which we later found out was from another bullet. The vet said she had a 20% chance of surviving with surgery. Her family decided to do the surgery. She passed almost instantly. Her family was devastated as she had only owned them for 5 months. They miss her very much.
