Adoption
PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE SUBMITTING
AN APPLICATION TO ADOPT
1. You will be required to complete our adoption application by clicking the adopt button next to the pet you are interested in. It will take you to our online application.
2. All initial contact will be through email, we will contact you via phone with any questions we have about your application.
3. We require that all pets in the home be spayed/neutered unless there are health reasons that can be verified in writing with the vet.
4. With all applications we do a background search, we will contact your references and your veterinarian, complete a home visit, and/or request photos of your home and fence/yard.
5. Once Approved we will arrange a meet and greet for you to meet your future family member.
6. Out-of-state adoptions will be considered case by case.
Important! Additional adoption criteria will apply on a case-by-case basis.
We DO NOT always approve the first application received. We look for the BEST fit for the dog and your family.
Please note that adoption fees are non-refundable.
We require a physical fenced-in yard, especially for large breeds of dogs but can make exceptions depending on the dog. We do not accept invisible fences.
You must own your home and be over the age of 23 – we do not adopt to renters unless you have a long rental history at your current address.
Fostering
Foster homes are the heart of the rescue. Without foster homes we would not be able to rescue dogs.
FOSTER QUALIFICATIONS:
1. You must live in Indiana. We will do a home visit with all potential foster homes prior to placing a dog.
2. All other dogs in your home must be spayed or neutered and kept up to date on vaccinations/heartworm preventative. Exceptions can be made for dogs who cannot be spayed or neutered due to medical reasons – this reason MUST be given on your application and verified by your vet.
3. You must be over the age of 23 to foster.
4. You must be willing to accept any breed that we feel would be best cared for and needs to be met in your home.
5. C.H.R will provide food, heartworm prevention, and flea/tick preventative for the foster dog.
6. Help with transporting of foster dog to and from vet appointments and adoption events.
7. Practice a slow intro of foster dog to your personal dogs and children.
8. Understand that these are rescues. Many rescues come with a history of neglect and abandonment and often need help with house training, crate training, and basic commands. You may also be asked to attend a training class provided by us.
9. We do not allow our fosters to pick and choose their foster dog or dogs. We place the dogs in a foster based on what their needs are.
10. We expect our fosters to communicate with us regularly and provide us with updates and pictures often so that we can get them into the right forever homes.
Communication is KEY!
11. While we understand that some families are very passionate about fostering, we do ask that our foster homes not bring any new dogs into their home while one of our foster dogs is present unless this is communicated to us first.
Fostering is a very important part of our rescue and we welcome your application.
