About Us
Canine Haven Rescue & Lost Dog Trapping is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization located in Waterloo, Indiana. We are a foster-based dog rescue with a small shelter and sanctuary at the director's home, which is situated on 5 acres of hills, grass, and woods. The property features walking paths through the woods, providing the dogs with an opportunity to expend their energy outside of the kennels. Our goal is to offer interactive play yards and playgroups to socialize our dogs and puppies.
We rescue dogs from high-kill shelters across the United States, as well as from owner surrenders and former breeding situations. Once rescued, we place them in foster homes after ensuring they receive complete vetting, including all age-appropriate shots, microchips, deworming, heartworm tests, necessary treatment, prevention, and spaying or neutering. Additionally, we take on various medical cases, ranging from diabetes and heart problems to surgical needs and bait dogs, all of which would have been euthanized if we hadn't intervened.
In addition to our rescue efforts, we conduct Lost Dog Tracking and Trapping in our county and surrounding areas, with the primary objective of reuniting them with their owners. We establish feeding stations, utilize video surveillance, and set up humane live traps to achieve this goal. If a dog is found without an owner, we bring them into our rescue after the stray hold period and ensure they receive necessary veterinary care before finding a new home. We are committed to educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering to reduce the pet population, as well as promoting proper animal care and responsibility. Additionally, we provide vet assistance costs to those in need through our angel fund when our budget allows, and we are currently working on establishing the first pet food pantry in our county.
